FEMALE ANDROGENETIC ALOPECIA

WHAT IS FEMALE ANDROGENETIC ALOPECIA? WHY DOES IT HAPPEN?

Alopecia in general is an autoimmune disease that causes partial, patchy or total hair loss. There are alopecias of various kinds, male or female, Androgenetic Alopecia, Telogenic, Universal, Total or Aerated Defluvium. The factors that can trigger this disease can be various and different such as:

  • stress
  • hormonal changes
  • immune system dysfunction
  • dietary disorders
  • hereditary (androgenetic) factors

As told by SITRI (Italian Society of Trichology) androgenetic alopecia, commonly called baldness, concerns more the frontal and upper areas of the head. This disease is caused by the malfunction of the immune system which no longer recognizes the hair follicles, causing them to shrink and fall. It is estimated that around 2% of the population worldwide suffer from it, both men and women and even children.

SYMPTOMS OF ALOPECIA

The main and often the only symptom of alopecia is hair loss.
You may notice:

  • Small bald spots on the scalp or other parts of the body
  • The patches can get larger and grow together in one bald spot
  • Hair grows back in one spot and falls out in another
  • Lose a lot of hair in a short time
  • More hair loss with cold
  • Fingernails and fingernails feet become red, brittle and pitted

Bald patches of skin are smooth, with no rash or redness. But you may feel a tingling, itching, or burning sensation on the skin right before the hair falls out.

Talking about this subject is always very difficult, especially if the people in question are women or children, famous people or “normal” people.
Addressing the speech about what happened a few days ago, at the Oscars, where the American comedian Chris Rock made a sad joke against Jada Pinkett Smith, wife of Will Smith about his Alopecia.

It is she who has shown herself to be open and very strong on her own experience with alopecia in recent years.
She the actress discussed her hair loss in 2018, during an episode of the talk show Red Table Talk, in which she claimed to have started losing ‘handfuls of hair’ in the shower. “It was one of those times in my life where I was literally shivering with fear,” Pinkett Smith said. She added that she had consulted the doctors to find out why this copious fall was occurring, but that she had never received an answer: “To date it is not yet clear why”.

The very nice thing was despite everything the apologies by Will Smith to the comedian Roch made on social networks for having understood that violence never leads anywhere, but in that omentum he was touched strongly for the medical situation of his wife.
